At the Savannah College of Art and Design I am constantly surrounded by students from different cultures and backgrounds. As you can see here on the map I have pins in the places where my classmates have grown up in. It's amazing to be surrounded by such a diverse group of people every single day pushing me to be a better artist than I was the day before.

Line project

For my second project in Design we were asked to create different variations of lines in a set of four boxes stacked three times. In doing this, we learn how something as simple as lines have the power to create unique designs that are appealing to the eye. It is amazing how lines can truly be so dynamic based off of the way that you connect, shape, and position them.

mapping project

point project

For our third project in design, we focused on finding one point in similar things. I chose to document the eyes of twenty different individuals. Although the color of each persons eyes are different, they all come together and create a form of unity. When you look into somebody's eyes, there is a story hidden within them. What's your story?

contour line project

Contour line drawing is an art form that has been used for many years. Andy Warhol for example, the brilliant artist, practiced in contour line drawing which inspired other artists around the world to use the same techniques. To the left and right of this paragraph are some of Warhol's work. Contour line drawing is when an artist sketches the contour of a subject by drawing lines that result in a drawing that is essentially an outline of that piece.

To the right of this paragraph is a video that teaches you how to do continuous line drawing for those who are interested. In this video, the demonstrator is drawing a face from a life model starting at the nose and the draws the entire face without picking up her pen. Usually when practicing line drawing, you should use a slow and steady hand.

Here is some of my work with Contour Line Drawings:

a clock, pencil, leaves, fern

tooth brush, flower, leaf, wood, glasses, shoe, button, envelope, walnut

rose, flower, necklace with flower on it, squash

a butterfly, acorn, feather, clothes pin, gardening glove, eyeball

WHAT I TRANSFORMED MY LINE CONTOUR DRAWING INTO:

I took my line contour drawing of a butterfly and put it into photoshop to add color to it and create it into something that would work in the real world. I decided to make the cover of a children's book. Here's my design.

MUSICAL GEOMETRY

For this project we were asked to take one of our favorite songs and let it be our inspiration for our artwork of any medium. Whether that be a photograph, a video, a drawing, or music. I chose the song 'Video Games' by Lana Del Rey because I love how dreamy and old school the song and all of her work is. To the right of this paragraph is the music video to the song. In the video you will see how nostalgic each shot is which made me want to create a photo set that gives the same sort of feeling.

THE LYRICS I CHOSE:

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you want to do
I heard that you like the bad girls honey, is that true?

These lyrics were my main source of inspiration for my photo set. "Heaven is a place on earth with you" really drove me to want to create something angelic-like and dreamy, while at the same time "I heard that you like the bad girls honey, is that true?" made me want the photos to have some sort of sex appeal to them. I wanted to create something contradicting that in the end, could work together perfectly.

Micro/ macro project

For our micro, macro project we were asked to take photos of our own interpretations of nature. I chose to really focus on the beauty of the flowers in my grandmothers back yard. I find it really interesting how no plant is the same in its natural state.

Timeline

WHAT INSPIRED ME

For this timeline project, I went into it knowing that I didn't want to follow the traditional timeline set up. So I started thinking about how I could change it, and my thoughts immediately went to movie posters. Whether it be posters that show the awards that film has received, or just traditional posters with the title and an outline of the story. So I took that idea and put it on a large scale photo of myself to give it that same movie feel effect.

Here is an example of my inspiration.

I gravitate more towards warmer colors and found this poster of the 'Danish Girl' that followed my color scheme and aesthetic.

man made

For this project, I chose to do nature remade by man. A man cuts down a tree to turn into paper, so I focused truly on what one of my favorite artists does with that paper. Patrick Cocepcion is a graphic designer who makes prints and posters for the entertainment industry. I love his work so much because its simple, clean, and he sticks with pretty much the same color scheme throughout all of his work which is very similar to the colors that I identify myself with as well.

MY COLOR SCHEME

MY PERSONAL COLOR PALETTE

HOW I IDENTIFY WITH COLORS

I identify with both warm and light colors mixed together. When tackling this project I wanted to show the colors I gravitate towards to the  most in my photography and editing. I love colors that are very earthy. In each photograph I tried to stick to different shades of brown, green, blue, orange, etc. I think those are the colors that match my aesthetic the most. I want my personal color palette to portray something both light and dark.

enlarged scad id

FRONT OF ID
BACK OF ID

At SCAD our student ID's are very normal and bland, which is surprising for an art school, right? So our professor gave us the opportunity to make our own student ID's for a project. Here is what I came up with. I chose a photo of myself that I actually liked for the front while still keeping all of my information needed to identify me. And for the back I chose a photo of some mountains that go with the color scheme of the front photo and then copied the information from the back of my original scad ID and added our emblem.

GOLDEN RATIO & CHANCE

For our golden ratio project we were asked to create a piece of art using the golden ratio which is photographed down below while incorporating the primary colors. For this project, I photographed different parts of Danielle Nutter's body and went into photoshop and added different filters to them. I also identify this as my Chance project because for centuries humans have over sexualized the female body and unfairly shaming them for what they have no control over. Society looks at the naked body of a woman and finds a way to make it seem inappropriate, so this is my way to show that a woman's body is nothing but a work of art.

PRIMARY COLORS:

LISTEN & DRAW

In class, our professor asked us to draw whatever came to our minds as she played different songs by different artists. Here are some of the drawings I came up with using different line techniques and contour drawing.

MOVIE COLOR SCHEME

Amelie - Color, Lighting, Narrative
The Wizard Of Oz - Scale, Metaphor, Paradox

For the movie Amelie, our terms were color, lighting, and narrative. the three terms for this movie are color, lighting, and narrative. Each color in the movie contrasts the other creating a good balance between the greens and oranges that are in most of the stills. There is also a balance in the lighting within this movie by using both warm dark scenes followed by light colored scenes. The colors in this movie show a narrative, as the movie progresses the scenes tend to be lighter to show the progression of her happiness.

For the movie Wizard Of Oz, our terms were scale, paradox, and metaphor. Scale is clearly evident in this movie when Dorothy is significantly larger than the munchkins in Munchkin Land. We also  see the main characters always searching for the things they already have, and we are convinced that over the rainbow there is something good when in reality there is only trouble which are examples of the paradox's in the movie. Lastly, the yellow brick road is a metaphor for life, and how the path of life isn't always going to be easy but the farther you go the more in touch with yourself you become.

EVENTS

SAVANNAH FILM FESTIVAL

At SCAD, we host the Savannah Film Festival each year. This year I had the amazing opportunity to not only work at the film festival but also watch new films such as Good Time featuring Robert Pattinson, and Served Like A Girl featuring the amazing strong women army veterans. Both films were phenomenal, and after the movie ended those who starred in the films were able to come out afterwards and talk about the process of making it. It's great being able to listen to both the actors and directors give us insight into their movies. I really recommend going to anyone who is in town next year!

Alvin Lustig was an American book designer, graphic designer and typeface designer. His work revolutionized the way people view graphic design and furniture design.
